The disarming spell (incantation: Carpo) is a spell that, when cast on a held item, causes it to fly away from someone's hand. It is usually used on a weapon, such as a wand.[1]

Known uses

Caster(s) Date Notes
Windssey 2006 (possibly) He cast the disarming spell on the wizard Beifar Mahgo during their encounter outside of Lord Alex Distribution Inc. in downtown Atlanta, to attempt to disarm him of his staff, however Beifar was able to hold his staff fast.[1]
Beifar Mahgo 2006 (possibly) He cast the disarming spell on Lord Alex's driver, Windssey, during their encounter outside of Lord Alex Distribution Inc. in downtown Atlanta, effectively sending the wizard's wand flying away from his grasp. This was immediately after the driver's failed attempt to use the same spell on Beifar's staff.[1]

Etymology

The incantation carpo is Latin and means a variety of things: "pluck, pick, harvest", "tear off, tear out, rend", "seize, utilize" and more, but for the spell, the meanings associated with taking away applies. Etymologically it is derived from Proto-Italic *karpō, from Proto-Indo-Eurooean *kerp-. Compare Greek καρπός (karpós, “fruit”) and κείρω (keírō, “to cut off”), English harvest, sharp, shear.
